Changing lives, two at a time

.
From the 2007 Advent Scarf Program where volunteers hand knitted scarves and delivered them to recipients:

.

Our volunteer delivered the scarf and sent these mail messages:

She loved the Christmas package from Faith in Action. She said one morning she sat in her chair with a hot cup of tea and wrapped the scarf around her eating the cookies and she thought of all the people that loved her and she loved and she felt the "big hug".

Recipient who lives in a local nursing home:

I don't go out very often and didn't think I would wear the scarf much. But then, the Lord impressed on me ... And I decided to put on the scarf every morning to get my hug and then say a prayer for the person who knitted it.

Recipient who just came home from the hospital:

When they delivered the scarf to me, I had been very cold for days and just could not get warm. I put on the scarf and I can't explain it, but I was immediately warm. You will never know how much your love and help means to me. God bless every single person at Faith in Action.

What our Recipients are saying:

.

"I'd like to express my gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Faith in Action. Since Mom must use a walker, it is difficult for her to use a taxi to grocery shop. The volunteers that take us shopping are very kind and generous with allowing us to make several stops in one trip, if we need to visit several stores."

"I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything that you and your volunteers do for me. I really appreciate it. You don't know what this means to me. I thank God in my daily prayers that I have someone I can trust and that is always there for me. Keep up your good work and may God bless you and your volunteers and keep you all in the best of heath in His care."

"Faith in Action is a wonderful gift. When God looks for a special group of people, he sees the wonderful caring group of volunteers from Faith in Action."

"I want to thank you for sending the four young people who weeded my flower beds. They worked quietly and did a great job. You never hear about the good things our young people do."

.

What our Volunteers are feeling:

.

"When I go to visit my recipient, I am overwhelmed with excitement because I know I am volunteering to do something good and warm for someone who is lonely and sad. When I come and visit, the first thing I do is I kiss her and hug her so she already starts to feel cheerful and warm. We usually go outside (if it's nice and warm out) and sit on her little swing and talk about many, many different things. If she wants to stay inside, we stay inside and talk. On days when it's close to the holidays, I usually do a little play about the holidays for my recipient. For an example, at Christmas time I sang her my entire Christmas concert! She even sang with me!" Adam, age 11

"Perhaps the best thing I have learned from this experience is the way in which he (recipient) enriched my life. I learned a great deal about him in the course of our visits together and while he was neither a great saint nor a devout sinner (like most of us) he was a unique human in his own God given way. His story is now part of my story. Thank you for the opportunity."
